Resilience Reaps Rewards

At St Joseph’s, we are committed to providing our pupils with not only the best education but also the skills and attitudes they need to thrive in life. This year, our staff have undertaken a powerful training programme with Urban Strides called Resilience Reaps Rewards.

This innovative programme is designed to strengthen resilience, improve behaviour, and build positive attitudes across the whole school community—staff, pupils, and families together. By developing resilience step by step, we aim to help our children not only bounce back from setbacks but also grow stronger because of them.

What the Programme Involves

  • Half-termly themes: Each half term has a different focus, with activities designed to build pupils’ skills and mindset in a structured and engaging way.
  • Whole-school engagement: It isn’t just for teachers; children and parents are encouraged to get involved so that resilience becomes part of everyday life at St Joseph’s.
  • Positive change: The programme provides practical tools that improve behaviour, develop confidence, and create a culture where everyone can flourish.

This Half Term’s Theme: Heroes

Our first focus for this term is Heroes. Through carefully planned lessons, pupils will create their own Hero Profiles—personal lists of the attributes and behaviours they most admire. These profiles act as a guide to positive behaviour, giving children ownership of their actions and aspirations.

By linking their own behaviour to the qualities of their heroes, pupils learn to take greater responsibility and pride in the way they conduct themselves. The profiles can be used to celebrate good choices and also as a reflective tool when things don’t go so well. In this way, pupils are encouraged to hold themselves to aspirational standards and understand the impact of their actions on others.

Why This Matters

Resilience is a life skill that goes beyond the classroom. By embedding this programme throughout the year, we are helping our children to:

  • Build confidence and adaptability.
  • Take responsibility for their actions.
  • Develop a positive outlook that supports both learning and wellbeing.

We look forward to working together with parents and carers to bring this programme to life and to celebrating the progress our children make over the year.
